You will appreciate that, in the ideal world, if a householder got quietly warned the instant an intruder trespassed; and the trespasser was simply betrayed and pinpointed with a spoken warning: "Intruder at Side of the House"  (without realising he'd been detected)… No resident would ever suffer a surprise attack…  Householders could arm themselves, lock doors, hit panic buttons, identify the number of intruders and description (for patrols in the case they get away) - and… very importantly; the intruders would be oblivious to these forces moving against them;… they would still be in 'stealth' mode and not yet startled into flight-or-fright until the householder was ready to spring the trap on them.  One might say: The hunters would become the hunted.
